If you are receiving messages such as “error interfacing with printer” or if nothing will appear on the screen in the Wizard Test Maker, you may need to install a different printer driver. We have found that the HP550C acts as a generic printer driver that interfaces nicely with the Wizard Test Maker software. Once the printer is installed on your machine, set it as your default printer for printing within the Wizard Test Maker. Below you will find instructions on how to install this driver as well as a download for the driver (please note a download of the driver is not always necessary, you can skip to step 5 below and select the printer from your existing list. There is a chance you will have the driver on your machine already, if not, please download it and then use the “Have Disk” option as described below.).
Create a folder on your C drive called HP and save the exe (link is below) file there.
Now go to C:\HP and dbl-click on the file HP550c.exe which will self extract driver files to that folder
From the Start Button, choose Settings than choose the Printers folder. The Printers window appears. Choose the Add Printer icon.
The Add Printer Wizard appears. Click Next, choose Local Printer, and click Next again. ( Avoid having your computer automatically detect your printer.) [At some point you will be asked to choose a printer port. Choose the port that your printer is using now. This is usually LPT1 for parallel cable printers or USB for (newer) printers and computers using USB cables. If a USB port is showing in the list you probably should select that.]
A list of Printers will appear. Under Manufacturers, choose "HP." Under Printers, choose the "HP 550C Deskjet." Click Next. This may now have a screen titled "Copying files." or "Have Disk." Click Browse.
Browse to your C:\HP folder or type in the path to the directory, "C:\HP" Then choose the OK button.
Files should now copy to your computer and a test page print.
You should now be able to run your Wizard Test Maker program.
